Successful Local Food Initiatives

‘Local Food’ has become a buzz word in today’s landscape. Best selling books, media, surveys and targeted research addressing the health, economic, and community benefits derived from the Local Food movement are emerging almost daily. Agriculture is a key economic driver across Eastern Ontario. We have a wonderfully rich and varied food heritage. From meats and poultry, to cheese, preserves, fruits and vegetables, there is an incredibly diverse range of fresh, local produce available from season to season throughout the region.

The challenge, however, continues to rest in the ability to get locally-grown and locally-produced foods into the hands of Ontario consumers who are motivated and interested in purchasing. Success and sustainability depends on collaboration across all sectors involved in the process, including government and non-government stakeholders from primary producers straight through to the consumer as end-user. Communities and organizations demonstrating best practices have been brought together in this very informative session. Come and learn how others are achieving success in this evolving and very important sector.
