2002 Conference Wrap Up
Another great Eastern Ontario Conference! Ninety four municipalities had representation at OEMC 2002; not bad considering there are only 113 municipalities in Eastern Ontario.
The business sessions continue to provide current and informative updates on programs and legislation. Mayor Hazel McCallion was a big hit with conference delegates, sharing her experiences and insights into municipal government and provincial areas. Her humour helped all start their business day with a smile. Delegates also had an opportunity to network with Mayor McCallion when she attended the Wednesday evening reception.
Also in attendance at the Wednesday evening reception was The Honourable Chris Hodgson who met and mingled with delegates. No speeches, just friendly conversation.
The Honourable Brian Coburn attended as Opening Speaker at the Wednesday Pre-conference Workshop.
Delegates enjoyed a Mobile Planning Workshop including a guided tour into some of Kingston's finest downtown re-development projects.
The Computer Technology and Agriculture tour visited two hi-tech farming operations, proving to be an interesting learning experience. Delegates were still talking about the marvel of technology while waiting for the complimentary shuttle bus service for Thursday evening's Taste of the Town.
On the lighter side, the reception featured Eastern Ontario Ale and Wine (until the wine ran out and we had to bring in the commercial stock). Several draws for weekend packages and a 1000 Island dinner cruise for two brought smiles to the faces of the lucky winners.
