Restocking your Business Tool Kit

Haliburton County Development Corporation

First I would like to provide a little background of my organization Haliburton County Development Corporation. We are a Community Futures Development Corporation funded by Industry Canada. We provide financial and counseling assistance to small businesses as well as participate in Strategic Planning and Community Development for Haliburton County.

We provide loans of up to $125,000 for most any aspect of business. While this keeps us busy I also spend time discussing business ideas and assisting people to clarify their needs. It is important for new and existing business people to have a third party to review their ideas and give an impartial judgement. This sometimes involves dampening their dreams with financial reality.

While information is abundant and often available on the internet, I find that most people prefer to talk to me about programs and research requirements. Therefore it is important for me to have many contacts that maybe of assistance to my clientele. These may range from government to numerous associations and individuals.

This is where the CTN has been of great assistance. Through working with Mark McAllister and Gus Gillespie (CTN advisor) we have met with over 10 companies in the last couple of years that has resulted in 2-3 CTN contracts. While this may not seem alot, I am very satisfied with this assistance. CTN has assisted companies with management problems, technological problems and expansion opportunities.

My clients appreciate opportunities to discuss their business plans with professionals from outside of Haliburton County.
